Tell us a little about your business. – ItsJustUs (IJUPainting.com) specializes in drywall, deck staining, painting, wall repair, ceiling repair, and wallpaper removal. ItsJustUs also works on kitchen cabinets, refinished wood floors, epoxy floors, painting and staining doors/trim, painting garage doors, walls, ceilings trim doors, commercial interior painting and exterior painting.

How did you get started in the business? – There were many things that led me to starting ItsJustUs Painting. After I had gotten out of prison, I needed a good job that would support my kids and family. One thing I’d often remind myself of was that “it’s just me and god.” And from that, a good name for the business was born. Now, when my wife, Chrissy, and I walk into projects, it’s just her and I.

Tell us a little about your family. – I married my wife after I got out of prison and I have two kids with her. I also have older kids, with my oldest son being 18 and our youngest, Daniel, who is 1 year old.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Starting ItsJustUs Painting. I graduated college with an Associate’s Degree and ran a gym for a while. Before ItsJustUs, I did a lot of landscaping for friends and family and decided a painting and drywall business was right up my alley, and I already had people wanting my services.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I don’t really have days off. I am always painting and doing drywall.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “Never back down.” I have a tattoo of this on my arm and for me it means to keep going and knocking on doors. There are millions of doors in this world, people like to say no, but sometimes you only need one yes .

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “The Heat Is On” by Glenn Frey. This is the Omaha Lancer hockey team’s theme and goal song. When I was a kid, my mom and I would go to their home games.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I would have three of me. I would be able to paint so much quicker!

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Nothing. I love what I do. I’ve had a few different career paths throughout my life. Personal trainer, chef, and landscaper.

What is your favorite TV show? – It would have to be Knight Rider. It was my dad’s favorite and a great show in general. I mean, how could a kid not love a supercar?

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – By far it’s Zipline Tap & Grill. The food and the beer make this place great but what really gives it 5 stars for me is the environment and customer service. I get asked by staff members why I keep coming back. The answer is always them. Don’t get me wrong, the beer and burgers are a huge reason, too.
