Tell us a little about your business. – At Camp A Way (CampAWay.com),  our mission is simple: provide the very best outdoor hospitality experience in the area. Whether you’re pitching a tent, parking your RV or enjoying a little luxury in one of our glamping units, we have something for everyone. We’ve built an environment that’s welcoming for families, full of amenities that keep guests smiling — from our swimming pool to high-speed Wi-Fi, fun zones and comfortable lodging options. We’re here to make sure your time outdoors feels both adventurous and relaxing.

How did you get started in the business? – My wife Jolene and I purchased Camp A Way in 1995. Back then, it was a tired park that needed a lot of love. Over the years, we’ve poured ourselves into bringing it back to life, and we’ve been blessed to see it grow into a vibrant, successful destination. The outdoor hospitality industry has changed considerably since then. Years ago electricity and a swimming pool were considered enough. Now guests expect streaming-capable Wi-Fi, activities for all ages, food service and a variety of lodging options.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I’m an optimistic person, so I tend to see challenges as opportunities. Every business faces obstacles, but I’ve learned that there’s almost always a way to pivot in a better direction. A challenge isn’t a dead end — it’s a chance to innovate.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – One of the most rewarding parts of running Camp A Way has been the chance to invest in young people. Over the years, we’ve hired more than 100 college and high school students. It’s incredibly meaningful when they stop by years later to say hello and share the amazing things they’ve accomplished. Knowing that we had even a small role in shaping their work ethic and confidence is something I’m very proud of.

Tell us a little about your family. – Jolene and I have been married for 49 years. We have one son, Chris, who worked alongside us for 25 years. We’re blessed with a wonderful daughter-in-law and two grandchildren, and we’ve spent many evenings cheering them on at ball games this past year.

Who inspires you? – I belong to a group of campground owners. We share financials, projects, and challenges, and we hold each other accountable. It’s a no-excuses group — and they keep me sharp and inspired to always improve.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Be a Blessing. I want to make a lasting, positive difference in the lives of others

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Traction and Get a Grip by Gino Wickman — both are excellent for anyone looking to strengthen their business.

What is your favorite local Lincoln restaurant? – Toast is our go-to spot!
