Greg Sprague grew up around the family roofing business and was not involved in school activities as he was expected to be at Sprague Roofing Company helping out.  After he graduated from UNL in the spring of 1979, he went to work at Sprague and has never had another job since.  Sprague Roofing Company is a commercial/industrial roofing company that specializes in low slope roofing in Lincoln and Eastern Nebraska. The company was started by his parents, Bob and Mary Ann Sprague in 1961. Sprague Roofing well celebrate 51 years in business this May.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
Building and training a professional work force at Sprague Roofing Company.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?
Making the transition from a craftsman in the roofing trade to business owner.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
The death of my father.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I like to go boating.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Nebraska.

What are you the most proud of?
My two daughters.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t take yourself too seriously.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
I would like to travel around the world.

How would your friends describe you?
Loyal, fun-loving.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
My ability to throw a 58 mph fastball.

Which talent would you most like to have?
The ability to throw a 98 mph fastball.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Instead of being the owner of Sprague Roofing Company I would prefer to be one of the following: relief pitcher for the Yankees, point guard for the Lakers or quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
A Movable Feast by Earnest Hemingway

What is your favorite movie?
The Wizard of Oz.

What is your favorite TV show?
– I don’t watch T.V.

What is your favorite Lincoln restaurant?
Thai Garden

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
President Obama. So I could tell him what I think of his failed presidency.
