Star City Six – Jeff Wolgamott

Ironhide Construction is a general contractor based in Lincoln. Jeff Wolgamott is the field operations manager and vice president of Ironhide Construction.

Tell us a little about your business.

We do many facets of construction, but our specialty is pre-engineered steel buildings. We have developed a team that can work seamlessly with all phases of construction. From the beginning design phases, ordering, and delivery of the building materials, to the crews in the field that bring the owners’ and architects’ visions to life. We have built our company on the foundations of family and hard work, and our goal is to treat everyone we work with and for as a valued family member.

How did you get started in the business?

I got my start in construction in high school. I needed a summer job and thought, “I get to carry heavy things, use power tools, and get a tan!” Who knew I would actually be walking into my career path.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

Learning how to delegate responsibilities and trust my team.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

Being asked to join the Advisory Committee for the Construction Management program at my alma mater, South Dakota State University. Ironhide Construction sponsors a scholarship there, too. It is such an honor to be able to give back to the place that gave me so much. In addition, being appointed to the Board of Directors of the newly-formed local chapter of Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA).

Tell us a little about your family.

I have two beautiful, smart girls in my life! My wife Jenny, who is the local sales manager at 10/11 here in Lincoln, and our five-year-old daughter Brooklynn.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

I like being outside, fishing or hunting. I also enjoy taking a walk or a road trip with my family.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?

I have a little bit of a green thumb.

Who inspires you?

The men and women of our Armed Forces.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t give up, don’t ever give up. I heard those words watching Jimmy Valvano give a speech, talking about having cancer and living your best life.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be?

Honest.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

“Some of It” by Eric Church.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be?

Football coach.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why?

Ironhide is a title sponsor of the Big Red Challenge, a 7K obstacle course race held in the Railyard. The mission of the race is to raise money to support troops returning from combat in their transition to civilian life.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?

The Way I Heard It by Mike Rowe.

What is your favorite TV show?

Last Man Standing or Family Guy.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
