Star City Six – Kendra McDonald
JetSplash was founded in 2003 and has grown to five car wash locations in Lincoln. Kendra McDonald is the sales manager at JetSplash.
Tell us a little about your business.
For 17 years, we’ve been helping the city of Lincoln shine brighter with our speedy, spotless car washes. With five locations, we are able to serve all of the Lincoln area. We’re a local business—not franchised, and we proudly employ over 150 people. At JetSplash, we take pride in our community, and we strive to give back through donations and fundraising opportunities. We even offer free washes from time to time to select groups.
How did you get started in the business?
I originally started as a part time sales advisor just to pay back some student loans. I ended up having a knack for selling and moved up in the company. This year, I’ll be coming up on my 10th year with JetSplash!
Tell us a little about your family.
I have been married to Sean for three and a half years, and we have a handsome baby boy named Myles who will be turning one this month! Becoming a family of three has been remarkable. It is so much fun seeing Myles reach each new milestone. From his first smile to his first steps, we’ve enjoyed every day along the way.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Hang out with my family. Sean travels for work, so it’s always nice to spend time together on my day off. I love to soak in all the cuddles I can from Myles. Who knows how long I’ll be able to get away with snuggling him. We also love to visit either of our parents’ acreages. In the summer, we like to go to my parents and swim at their pool, and we love to ride four-wheelers, grill, and do anything that includes being outside at my in-laws. This winter, we’re looking forward to playing in the snow with Myles for the first time.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I swam competitively for 16 years. I started lessons when I was three or four years old, and then I started swimming competitively when I turned six. I swam through high school and then at the collegiate level at a DII school in Missouri, Truman State. The highlight of my swimming career was winning nationals my sophomore year!
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing—that’s why we recommend it daily.” – Zig Ziglar
Which talent would you most like to have?
Being able to sing well. Don’t get me wrong…I will still sing, but it’s not always pleasant for the people who are listening. So far, Myles enjoys my singing, though.
What is your favorite movie?
There are so many, but a few on the list would be Shawshank Redemption, Fast and Furious, Die Hard, Secretariat, and Schindler’s List.
What is your favorite TV show?
Favorite old show would be Friends. Favorite new shows are Last Man Standing and Shark Tank.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
Kinja and China House.
