Tell us a little about your business. – Husker Rehabilitation & Wellness Centers has proudly served southeast Nebraska since opening our first outpatient clinic in March of 1999, starting at a rural hospital in 1995. We operate five outpatient physical therapy clinics. Our philosophy has remained unchanged for more than 27 years: Treating the Cause of Pain, Not Just the Symptoms. We believe every patient deserves an individualized evaluation that identifies the underlying source of their pain rather than simply masking symptoms.
How did you get started in the business? – I’ve always been fascinated by how the human body works and the incredible ability it has to heal when given the right environment. After becoming a physical therapist, I realized I wanted to create a practice where clinicians had the time and freedom to truly understand each patient rather than simply treating a diagnosis. That vision became Husker Rehabilitation, joining my business partner Greg Cromer and later business partner Ryan Wade, and this vision continues to guide every decision.
What has been your biggest professional challenge? – Building a business while protecting its culture. Growth is exciting, but it also requires fi nding people who share your values. I’ve learned that success isn’t measured only by opening new clinics—it’s measured by developing a team of compassionate professionals who believe
in serving others and putting the patient first.
What has been your most important professional achievement? – Without question, it’s the people. Watching therapists, assistants, office managers and leaders grow into outstanding professionals has been rewarding. Knowing that our team has helped thousands of Nebraskans return to work, sports and healthier lives is something I’ll always be proud of.
Tell us a little about your family. – My wife is an elementary school teacher with Lincoln Public Schools, and together we’ve always believed in serving our community through education and healthcare. Family has always been our foundation and continues to remind us that success is measured by the lives we positively impact, both
professionally and personally. Our daughter Skyler is a Speech Language Pathologist in the Lee Summit area, and our son Currey is an Orthopedic Resident at UNMC and with his wife Megan, a teacher, live in the Omaha area.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Opening Husker Rehabilitation in March of 1999. It was certainly a leap of faith, but it gave me the opportunity to build a practice around a philosophy I deeply believed in rather than simply following the status quo.
Who inspires you? – People who quietly make a difference every day. Whether it’s a therapist helping someone walk again, a teacher inspiring a child, a farmer working from sunrise to sunset or a parent sacrificing for their family, I admire people whose actions consistently improve the lives of others without seeking recognition.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer. We have always told our kids that it is not really work when you love what you do.
