Niederhaus Refuse is a garbage disposal company that serves all of their customers’ varying needs with residential, commercial/industrial, recycling services and roll-off containers for all different sizes and types of projects.  Scott Niederhaus is the owner of Niederhaus Refuse.

Tell us a little about your business. – Niederhaus Refuse was started back in 1921 by my grandfather, Jacob Niederhaus.  It started out as just a residential waste removal with a horse-drawn wagon.  From there it has grown and has been passed down to my father, my brother and now I run the company. We are family owned and operated and take pride in giving back to our community. We have added commercial services, industrial services, roll-offs and recycling to the services we provide for the city of Lincoln/Lancaster County.

How did you get started in the business? – Being family owned and operated, I was able to see all aspects of the company. From the “shagger” who emptied the toters into the truck, the different type of drivers we have, to the office personnel; I have done and still do each job.  Knowing what each job consists of enables me to fully know what is going on in the business and stay ahead.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – The expansion of my business to include offering roll-offs and recycling services to the community.

Tell me a little about your family. – I have one daughter, Kelsey (24), two sons, Braden (18) and Griffin (15) and two grandchildren, Conner and Aubrey.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – When my brother, Mike, passed away a few years ago from cancer.  This affected me both personally and professionally.  Instead of both of us running the family business, it was up to me to run everything by myself.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy camping with family and friends and hunting with my sons.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am involved in the Iron Nobles, which is a part of the Sesostris Shriners. Both of my brothers and our father have also been a part of this organization.

What are you the most proud of? – My kids and grandkids.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Stay ahead of the game.
