Proceeds From Golf Tournament Presented to SCC for Scholarships

Southeast Community College (www.southeast.edu) received checks worth more than $15,000 on November 15th, proceeds from the 25th annual Wells Fargo Nebraska Open golf tournament held in September.

Gary Thompson, a member of the Nebraska Public Power District Board of Directors, presented three checks, each in the amount of $5,200, to SCC during the regular monthly meeting of SCC’s Board of Governors.

Accepting the checks on behalf of the College were Jon Snyder, an Academic Transfer student from Maywood and president-elect of the Beatrice Campus Student Senate; Ashlin Bussell, an Agriculture Business & Management Technology student from Imperial and Beatrice Student Senate vice president; Bob Morgan, dean of virtual learning/Beatrice Campus director; Bev Cummins, vice president for student services/Lincoln Campus director; and Ed Koster, vice president for technology/Milford Campus director. The money will go into the scholarship fund on each campus.

Thompson thanked Wells Fargo for its ongoing sponsorship of the tournament, the proceeds of which have surpassed $1.3 million in scholarship money for students attending five of Nebraska’s community colleges.

SCC has received more than $260,000 from the tournament since it began. A total of $78,000 was raised during this year’s tournament.

Endorsed and administered by the Nebraska Section of the PGA and the Nebraska Golf Association, the tournament is coordinated by the NPPD and has been held at the Elk’s Country Club in Columbus since 1992. More than 50 businesses sponsored this year’s event, with many participating in an 18-hole scramble with professional golfers.
