Parkinson’s Nebraska Gears Up for a Big September

Parkinson’s Nebraska (parkinsonsnebraska.org) will be hosting two events in September. “Delay The Disease Instructor Training” is set to take place September 7-8 at the Grand Island YMCA (221 E South Front St.). It will cover evidence-based concepts for planning and implementing a community-based, Parkinson’s-specific exercise class based on the Delay the Disease Parkinson’s Fitness Program. Presenters will be OHIO Health Delay the Disease Trainers Jackie Russell and David Zid. This affordable training is open to the following professionals: PT/PTA, OT/COTA, RN, athletic trainer, or group exercise instructor with ACE, ACSM, NSCA, ISSA, or exercise physiologist certification(s). The cost is $225 to attend.

At the end of the month, “Walk & Run The Park For Parkinson’s” – featuring the 1st Annual “Shake-A-Leg 5k!” will take place on Sunday, September 30 at Elmwood Park. The purpose of this event is to raise funds to support local Parkinson’s services and to celebrate the strength of the local Parkinson’s community. There will be a 1-mile walk route, a professionally-timed 5K run, a delightful brunch, access to a sponsor expo, live performances by local groups from the Parkinson’s community, activities for the kids, colorful t-shirts, and so much more!
