Matt Talbot Celebrates at Annual Dinner

Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach (MTKO; www.mtkserves.org) hosted its annual Feeding the Soul of the City dinner and fundraising event on March 31, 2016 at Nebraska Innovation Campus.  Because of the generosity of 52 corporate and individual sponsors, the sold-out crowd of 400 guests who attended, and the many who gave donations prior to the event, Matt Talbot raised a record setting gross amount of over $150,000.

Compassion in Action awards were presented to Jim & Mary Love and Beatty Brasch & the Center for People in Need.  The Loves have faithfully volunteered at Matt Talbot for over 22 years.  They were the first hunger relief team captains from St. Joseph Catholic Church, which now has three teams.  In addition to their role as hunger relief volunteers, the Loves also support emergency outreach assistance for individuals and families in crisis by giving financial donations to support needs identified by MTKO’s (www.mtkserves.org) Outreach Coordinator.

The Center for People in Need was honored for its commitment and collaboration to helping the most underserved populations in our community escape poverty.  The Center offers direct services such as job training programs, a 24 seat computer lab, and multiple services to assist low income refugees new to the country and our community. In addition, the Center also actively advocates for systemic changes through federal, state and local policy makers.
