The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.

Veterans Day stands as a testament to the bravery and sacrifices made by countless American service members throughout history. The holiday’s origins trace back to November 11, 1918, when an armistice was signed between the Allied powers and Germany, marking the end of World War I. The moment—at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month—became a symbol of peace and a day to remember those who fought for it. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as Armistice Day to honor the World War I soldiers, and in 1938, it became an official holiday. However, the scope broadened after World War II and the Korean War, leading President Dwight D. Eisenhower to rename it Veterans Day in 1954, to honor all U.S. military Veterans, past and present.

As we observe Veterans Day each year, it’s a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by both those who never returned home and those who did, carrying with them the experiences of service. At Strictly Business, we recognize the importance of paying tribute not only to the fallen but also to the Veterans who continue to be pillars in our communities—as business owners, neighbors, and leaders. We encourage our readers to express their gratitude, support Veteran-owned businesses, and acknowledge the heroes among us. Let’s honor their legacy by standing with the local businesses that make supporting our Veterans a priority.
